Excellent message. So much can be accomplished with photography, it is too bad that some people cut corners on this, or that they don't have the feel of their brand enough to develop a visual concept. Imagine how awesome it would be if everyone had the right budget for what they were trying to get through in the feel of their advertisements. thanks for the post! :)

What is the point in buying "likes" or views? Seriously, we put our content on social networks of all types to get traffic from potential buyers, why have you created this blog for example?

To get 25 likes on Facebook recently I called on friends, family and staff here, the reason? To get a Facebook page ID - nothing more, but what does 200 or 1,000 get you?

Am I missing some information?

Fun idea though, I wonder if... yes it is clean... a 6'6" 50-something year old man weighing in at about 300lbs would stand on a street corner... yes really, it is clean... in a tutu and kirtsy to passers by for 5 minutes - that's $1 per minute, $60 per hour or $115,200 per year if you can get enough paying. No board rooms, no cleaning, no political bullshit, just standing on a street corner being polite... geez, I think I would do that for $115K per year!

Good post. Toughest part of any web design job is graphics and photography to include. It can make the difference between success and failure.

Most of us don't have time for do it yourself, so finding a good, reasonably priced source is the challenge.

I agree that marketers have been using social media as a jargon to sell it to their clients. Its a mushroom growth of social media agencies out of which a majority does not even know the actual essence of this medium

Great strategy if you have a product that fits. With me I give out a 1/2 hour free phone session on marketing strategy. It's a great way to introduce the value you get with my "idea" sessions.

Another strategy is find a great affiliate product and bundle your product as a free added extra. It makes your affiliate offering better than your oppositions plus it gets your product out in the market.

Great points guys. It is one of the best ways I have seen to get better ranking on Google. However Google my fight back and tweak it settings if people continue to abuse this technique by creating link farms that do nothing to help the average user find the information they are looking for.

I agree. Especially in the last point. Ask Find Buy exist in this space. Small business in the consulting space will I believe continue to globalse it's markets. My son is 19 and has VAs in the Philopines. He is doing work for some major retail chains that would have used big end of town firms just ten years ago.

You have posted excellent information here. Good to see that some progress is finally being made on the subject. Each search engine forms its own view of the Internet by the use of "spiders," programs that follow the links between web pages. Different search engines thus have different databases, as can be seen when comparing how many pages each claims to have indexed. This is really great and useful facts to individual it really helps us. Thanks for sharing your vital artifact. Looking forward to your future postings on this very imperative publication.

After reading David’s comments about Charney Hall, I started to wonder about the broader sociological aspects of the subject. What made nice middle-class English families who were kind to animals and loved their children entrust the latter to people like Max Duncan and Ray Hirst?

Perhaps one of the factors here was a distrust of the government educational system. But more potent, I suspect, was status and the need to show that you had the power to buy private education. Charney Hall gave no guarantee of educational standards simply because the only prerequisite for entry was money. If you could pay the fee, they took your boy as an inmate.

Also, we were being trained to suffer so that we could run the empire. No-one seemed aware that the empire was running in the other direction. Our first geography book at CH was called ‘Great and Greater Britain’ and was devoted to Britain’s civilising influence on black and brown peoples.

(Roger and David don’t mention Hirst who was the original co-partner. He may have been taken ill sometime soon after I left. I remember my mother saying something about him. I recall him as more cold-blooded but less impulsive than Duncan. Philip Fawcett was a kind man and I could never understand how he got mixed up with the other two.)

I’m not sure that this is the best forum to discuss these issues or even to indulge in wobbly reminiscences. However, I think there is a lesson for all parents to be wary of what they are letting their children in for. They should carefully examine their own motives for any course of action. A socially-conforming reflex is not enough.

Hi,
I too was an inmate at Charney Hall from 1962-64. I well remember Roger Beaumont. A nice uncomplicated lad with plenty of character and very good company.
Maxwell Duncan hated me from the moment he set eyes on me. He was convinced, that because I had lived in Kenya all my life that I was used to having everything done for me, and that he felt responsible for kicking it out of me.
My Mum dropped me off at the school on my first day. Mr Duncan offered tea and biscuits during which my mother asked him if it was OK that she had just bought me The Dandy Annual ( 1962 ). He could barely supress a scowl but said it would be alright and took the book. I never saw it again. Only Look and Learn and a few educational comics were permitted.
By far the most clourful character in the school was Donald Deakin. he was a scruffy, ungainly but very likeable lad who was always in trouble. He was thrashed more often than me!
Deakin did finally win over Maxwell Duncan and to everyones amazement was made a prefect on his last term.
Not so me. On my very last day Mr Duncan caught me with a sweet in my hand. ( sweets were only allowed for a short period after lunch on Sat/Sun/and Wednesday ). He grabbed me by the hair and dragged me by it, all the way to his office. ( standard practice ). To my surprise, he did not cane me. Instead, white with anger and spitting as shouted and with his face very close to mine, he said, " Here its sweets boy, but when you get to Oundle, ( where I was destined )....it will be FAGS BOY ...FAGS!!! "
I could write a book about Charney Hall...

Instead, white with anger and spitting as shouted and with his face very close to mine, he said, ” Here its sweets boy, but when you get to Oundle, ( where I was destined )….it will be FAGS BOY …FAGS!!! ”
I could write a book about Charney Hall…

That was good, I learned yesterday that statistically after 2 minutes for every 10 seconds you lose 10% of your viewers?

I have just stumbled on your site, Roger, after chasing a name for quite a different purpose. I lived in Grange-over-Sands for much of my childhood; my grandfather was vicar at St.Paul's church. I also attended Charney Hall from 1952 to 1957.

My memories of Max Duncan and also his partner Ray Hirst are less affectionate than yours. Nowadays, I view them as unreconstructed fascists with dinosaurian instincts. I suspect they'd be illegal here today. In Australia we now discourage the psychological manipulation of children.

Max used to have a few drinks at dinner and then come to sing Gilbert and Sullivan to my accompaniment on the piano in the music room. He also owned a folio edition of Gould's Birds which I greatly coveted and thought was wasted on him.

Hi, Great post about Twitter. I think Twitter is going to be one of the better networks because of the fact that it is supported by so many industries. I also think when Twitter reveals some of it's new functions, returning traffic will go up to show the real growth of the network. Keep up the good work!

An interesting post today on a quick excerpt Google Trends is like the popularity gauge for the Internet. For example, if you're curious to see how certain car companies fare against each other in terms of search frequency, type in two search terms separated by commas and Google.

Affiliate marketing works very well in these years that it benefits both the advertisers and publishers. As a result, some skeptical people start trying to compare affiliate marketing with multi-level marketing (MLM).

Affiliate marketing is in fact different from multi-level marketing. Of course there is something called multi-tier affiliate marketing but the notion of this is not identical to multi-level marketing. In multi-tier affiliate marketing, the second of third tier are actually promoting the real products of the advertisers. The final consumers or customers are still get the real products. The first-tier is only getting part of the sales of the second or third tier as a bonus of referring new members to the affiliate programs.

Of course you may think that finally the advertisers are making most money and they are just like the people who are at the top of the pyramid in multi-level marketing. This is true but the advertiser should not be considered the one at the upper part of the pyramid. Affiliates are selling real products to the customers and the advertisers earn the most because they are the one who provide the products or services. However, in multi-level marketing, there is virtually there is no end users and since the members are also the people who are purchasing the "products", which are, as discussed before, not actually existing.

Newbies to multi-tier affiliate marketing may feel confusing and they may not be able to tell the difference between multi-tier affiliate and multi-level marketing. This is very true that they can be seemed very similar. However, they are totally different in nature. It has to be very clear that the latter is usually illegal while the former is an effective way of internet marketing.

Bob, Thanks for sharing that, glad you liked the post. Many marketers seem to go off course, thinking that since social media is free they should just go ahead and send their message to the world. But targeting still helps to get the attention of the right people, the one's with an interest in what you offer who are willing to listen. I also dig the photo you used of the audience with the 3D glasses.

Affiliate Marketing is a performance based sales technique used by companies to expand their reach into the internet at low costs. This commission based program allows affiliate marketers to place ads on their websites or other advertising efforts such as email distribution in exchange for payment of a small commission when a sale results.
